It’s Pride season and while you’re out there celebrating living out loud, make sure your scent is just as signature as you are! Celebrity parfumier and chemist Vincenzo Spinnato (who also designed the anniversary Hollywood scents!) teamed up with the Garland estate (including Judy’s children: Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft) to formulate a fragrance that not only screams “Judy!” but emulates one the icon used to wear herself!
This unisex fragrance features both spicy and floral notes that showcase Dark Orchid, Coriander, Elemi (a fresh, spicy fragrance akin to frankincense), California Grapefruit, Pink Pepper with a hint of oil from the official Judy Garland rose! There’s also a lingering sweetness of Tonka Bean Bourbon Vanilla and Caramel that balance the notes of Velvety Musk and Patchouli Woods. I’m usually very wary of Patchouli because it can often be very overwhelming and wreak havoc on my sinuses, but the balance in this fragrance is absolutely perfect!
The fragrance arrives just in time to celebrate the 85th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. Also, as we look back on the origins of Pride it’s no coincidence that the beloved icon was lost just days before the Stonewall riots took place. Now, this isn’t to say that the star’s untimely passing caused the riots. Unrest was rife within the community and heroes like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera and Stormé DeLarverie were already putting the pieces in place for a rebellion. But the anger at being unable to mourn in peace certainly did a lot to fuel the flames for the firees of injustice that burns for angry young LGBTQ members of the day.
From the beginning, Judy Garland and the LGBTQ+ community have been linked and this fragrance is a wonderful way to keep that connection alive (and smell good while doing it!).
