"If we’re going to connect to Kara as an audience, we need to know who she is. Kara may not fully know who she is, but the audience should – especially as our hero."
Stepping Out of Superman’s Shadow
Sure, it’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’sSuperman (2025), but what of Kara? She’s probably watching her cousin’s hero shenanigans from the comfort of her local bar on whatever planet she happens to be in at that moment. She’s likely got snacks, cold beer, a hyperactive dog and a healthy dose of trauma. Kara Zor-El is a hero in her own right though without that pesky “people pleasing” gene Kal-El seems to have. When a threat hits too close to home, Supergirl decides to jump in and goes on a journey to self-discovery and finding a place called home. Craig Gillespie directs the second James Gunn DCU film, and the first film for DC, Supergirl (2026) and it’s thrilling, hilarious and inspires the heroes – willing and reluctant – in all of us.
It’s Pride season and while you’re out there celebrating living out loud, make sure your scent is just as signature as you are! Celebrity parfumier and chemist Vincenzo Spinnato (who also designed the anniversary Hollywood scents!) teamed up with the Garland estate (including Judy’s children: Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft) to formulate a fragrance that not only screams “Judy!” but emulates one the icon used to wear herself!
If you live in Hollywood, you probably know the split personality that is Melrose Avenue. East of Fairfax are the trendy, skater, streetwear brands, or the hipster trader outpost. These seem to be mostly inspired by the de facto performing arts highschool on the corner of Fairfax on Melrose that boasts a huge Flea Market just about every weekend.
From Fairfax to La Cienega, the age and income brackets start to rise as you pass more skin care brands, galleries, the famous Glossier building and the infamous Pink wall. The eats become more trendy and the “LA” of it all begins to kick in. Whether it’s arguing about getting tar-tar at Catch Steak or trying to get a table at EP&LP, there’s no turning back, you are decidedly in the thick of it.
Nicole Mendez (creator of Linked By Love), John Savage and Susan DeLaurentiis
It’s Oscars Weekend and the stars are out, but not just to see who takes the gold! The 15th Annual Susan DeLaurentiis Productions Gala celebrated the veterans who keep this country safe and paid homage to those we’ve lost. With a luncheon, fashion show and key presentations, several showed up to pay their respects.
We talked to John Savage, Donny Most, Morgan Fairchild about what makes the event so important. We also had a chance to chat with vendors who create products with our veterans in need. And finally, we chatted with the cast of Linked By Love, a series featuring a Black family where the matriarch needs a kidney transplant. Transplants are vital to the veteran community and having positive representation really does help more people decide to donate.
